On Friday, we spent the day at the beautiful Spring Barn Farm in Lewes, a place we’ve never been to before, but one which will now be our ‘go to’ when we have a day free!
The boys absolutely loved it, and there is so much to do and see...
On arrival at the farm we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff who talked us through all the activities, and pointed out where everything was. I'm not sure about you, but I'm fed up of going to places and staff being miserable, so it was so lovely speaking to someone who was smiling!
The sun was shining down and typically the boys headed straight towards softplay.. I mean come on, all the animals we could have started with but no, they wanted to head into one of my pet hates, BUT Spring Barn Farm’s softplay was fantastic. It was extremely clean (woohoo!) with play areas for babies and toddlers, and three huge slides for the bigger kids.
There’s a seated area situated right next to it, so if you have the luxury of being able to grab a coffee (I never do!) then you’re able to enjoy it whilst watching your kiddies close by.
The indoor area is also home to the birthday party area and ‘The Spring Barn Farm Young Tractor Driver’s Challenge’, which is an area with small ride on tractors, ramps and a little petrol station which I thought was pretty cute. The boys also loved that there were some very friendly ducks waddling around whilst they played!
The farm itself is absolutely stunning, and it definitely helped that the sun was shining down for us! It’s not all built on itself like some farms we’ve been too, and there are plenty of benches for you to sit and have your lunch whilst taking in the beautiful views.
I also loved that there are plenty of shaded areas! Spring Barn Farm is one of those places you could spend the whole day at, and with the heat of the sun on Friday it was great that there was somewhere for us to sit out of the sun for a while.
There are a range of farm animals outside, and smaller animals in the animal barn. The animal barn is gated so you don’t have to worry about wandering in and your children running back out, but with all the animals to pet in there you won’t need to worry about them darting elsewhere!
The boys enjoyed looking at the chipmunks and petting the lambs, alpacas, and ponies, and right outside is a place for you to wash your hands. Typical ‘mum’ but I will add that all taps were running WARM water, had working soap dispensers and actual paper for you to dry your hands! So many places we’ve been to the water has been freezing, no soap is available and the only thing you can wipe your hands on is your jeans, so thumbs up Spring Barn Farm for being well stocked!
There’s a daily Land Rover and trailer ride which I’d thoroughly recommend, it’s situated at the back of the farm and takes you on a little adventure to see the sheep, which are fed whilst you’re there. The two guys who took us out were very chatty and friendly, and answered all questions when quizzed!
There is honestly so much to do at Spring Barn Farm with daily activities situated in the animal barn, bouncy pillows, a zip wire, climbing equipment and slides, sandpits (shaded too!), pedal go-karts, and ride on tractors. ‘The Pump Station’ was a hit with the boys too, which is a sanded area with water pumps and an assortment of buckets, spades and toys which meant there was no squabbling!
The boys had a fantastic time exploring, and I had a wonderful day relaxing in the knowledge that the food areas, softplay and toilets were clean, the farm itself appeared safe (Looked after equipment and nowhere for them to escape to!) and the staff made us feel welcome! Yes I’m one of 'those' mums!
Also if you don’t take a picnic the food is reasonably priced, we bought the boys a lunch meal which was £4.95 and included half a sandwich, packet of crisps, an apple, a homemade cake and a carton of juice.
It’s a great day out for all the family, and is open 10am – 5pm. Keep a check on their website and Facebook page for the latest events!
P.S if you do manage to go, check out the produce on the way out.. the cucumbers and strawberries are huge!!!!
Thank you to Spring Barn Farm for providing us with free entry to the farm in return for an honest review.
