If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you’ll already know that one of Clark’s favourite things to do is bake. Whether it’s biscuits, cakes, gingerbread men or muffins, you name it, he’s made it! It’s something which he really loves to do, and something which I love helping him with.
Recently I was trawling through baking hashtags on Instagram for some inspiration when I came across some awesome burger cakes on BKD’s Instagram account....
I found myself lost in their feed, and endlessly scrolling through images of dinosaur biscuits, pirate cupcakes and penguin biscuits – They were some of the most creative kids bakes I’d seen!
The more I read into the company, the more I loved what BKD were about and how they’re passionate about inspiring a new generation of Mini Bakers (AKA, Clark!) with the help of their Mini Bakers Club.
Multi award-winning BKD is founded on the ethos of fuelling kids’ imaginations in the kitchen and making baking with your family easy, tasty and super fun. Their Mini Bakers Club is a monthly baking and crafting subscription club, perfect for kids aged 3-8 years old. The personalised boxes are delivered monthly straight through your letterbox and contain an exciting baking and crafting project, developed by education and baking experts.
Clark was eager to open his BKD box when it arrived – I’m starting to get jealous as his post is always more exciting than mine!
Opening the box I was so impressed as to what was included as there was everything we’d need to make our raspberry biscuits (minus the perishables, for obvious reasons), and each box is completely personalised to your child with their Mini Bakers Club Member sheet. There was even a handwritten note for Clark as I had spoken to the BKD team previously which I thought was lovely, it’s small things like this which is why I love supporting small businesses!
Not only did our box contain the biscuit mix, heart cutter and sprinkles it also included a piping bag, stickers and bags to share our biscuits, a small packet of colouring pencils and a mini baking book..oh and not forgetting another recipe card to make Oreo Chick Pops - We’re going to make these for Easter!
The mini baking book was a lifesaver as we had to leave the biscuit mixture in the fridge for an hour, so it gave me the opportunity to distract Clark whilst we waited. The book contained a variety of educational activities including sprinkle counting and a cupcake maze, plus there’s a really useful checklist to go through before you start baking so your child can check and tick off everything you’ll need.
The instructions were all easy to understand, and in our box there were 3 different recipes we could follow, either iced biscuits, cookie sandwiches or jam thumbprint cookies. We stuck to the iced biscuits as Clark could then easily cut the shapes, ice and decorate these on his own.
He had loads of fun mixing the butter and egg, squishing the mixture into a ball, rolling the dough and cutting the heart shapes, and even more fun getting messy and pouring all the sprinkles onto the biscuits! Notice the word ‘pour’ not ‘sprinkle’ which meant we ran out pretty quickly so had to use some others we had in the cupboard! As he was decorating the biscuits he even turned to me to say I love you mum, like I love these pink heart biscuits..I’m pretty sure he was just trying to get off the hook for the mess he was making!
The biscuits themselves were absolutely delicious and you could taste the freeze dried raspberries – Another thing I love about these BKD baking kits is that they are made with natural flavourings, and you can really taste it!
All in all I am so pleased I came across those burger cakes on Instagram and that Clark had the opportunity to trial one of BKD’s Mini Bakers Club boxes!
